The Cyber Safe Communities Initiative is a culturally inclusive, trauma-aware digital safety program created by NSWCWMA in partnership with the Australian Government’s Act Now, Stay Secure campaign. We offer a free, multilingual, confidential helpline and awareness workshops to support Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) residents of regional NSW. All services are general in nature and delivered in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, and English to foster responsible digital habits and build resilience against cyber risks.
The Cyber Safe Communities Initiative supports regional, multicultural, and faith-based communities by raising awareness, providing trauma-informed support, and ensuring access to cyber safety tools that are both linguistically and culturally appropriate. Resources include fact sheets, videos, posters, and live-chat tools based on Australian Government guidelines.
● Our helpline offers general cybercrime guidance and awareness, general emotional support for victims of online abuse or fraud, tips on protecting your online identity and personal data, and general referral pathways to government resources.
● All services are delivered in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, and English, ensuring cultural sensitivity and accessibility.
● Operating Hours: Monday & Wednesday – 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM (after-hours service)
● Access via Phone, WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, or our Chatbox on nswcwma.org.au for quick, general guidance.
This service is available to CALD residents of regional and remote NSW who are 18 years or older. All advice is general in nature, based on official Australian Government guidance.
Rising Cyber Risks: Cybercrime and digital harm are increasing across Australia, especially among seniors, young people, and migrant communities.
Simple Cyber Habits: Enable multi-factor authentication, install software updates promptly, and use strong passphrases to protect your digital identity. These steps align with the Australian Government's Everyday Cyber Security guidance— download the full course (PDF).
Government Partnership: We partner with the Act Now, Stay Secure campaign to ensure resources are aligned with national digital safety standards.
Knowing what to look out for is the first step to staying safe online. Common threats include: Phishing (messages pretending to be trusted organisations to trick you into giving personal information); Scams (deceptive schemes using urgent messages or offers that seem too good to be true); Malware (harmful software that can infect your device via links or downloads); and Data breaches (when personal information is accessed without permission).
Access the full toolkit at Act Now, Stay Secure Campaign.
If you experience a scam, fraud, or cyber incident: report it as soon as possible. Contact your bank or financial provider if money is involved; report scams to Scamwatch. Change passwords for affected accounts, monitor your accounts for unusual activity, and seek support (e.g. IDCARE for identity theft). For a full step-by-step guide, see Everyday Cyber Security: Practical Steps for Australians (Reporting and Recovery lesson).

The New South Wales Central West Muslims Association acknowledges the First Peoples of Australia as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work. We acknowledge their cultures are living ones, which relate to their ongoing connection to all things living and non-living on land, sea and sky. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present. May the children of today lead us to a brighter tomorrow.
